THE AAA ARTIST RESIDENCY
Action Art Actuel [AAA] is a non-profit artist run centre devoted to the promotion and development of contemporary art. The centre is located at the heart of St-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu’s downtown and near Richelieu river, 45 min by car from Montréal and is also accessible by public transportation.
The AAA residency program is a part of our extensive interaction with the contemporary artists and audiences. The residency program is integral to our role as an originator of innovative works of art by providing unparalleled opportunities for artists to develop new work and engage with the art community.
The gallery will further support resident-artists work through mailings, website postings, and other promotional materials.
The AAA residency is moving. Please come back to this page later for
updates of floor plans and images of the new space.
There are two types of residencies available to artists :
1-THE SELF-DIRECTED RESEARCH AND PRODUCTION RESIDENCY :
*This type of residency entails fees*
A stay at the AAA residency provides the time and space necessary for individuals to create new works, research innovative ideas and experiment. The work produced can be in any media and/ or field of art criticism or writing with an emphasis on contemporary art practices.
Residency length can vary but all residencies must begin on a Tuesday and last for a minimum of a week.
Our staff is committed to assisting artists in the realization of their projects. We will discuss the proposals with artists before the residency begins to assess technical requirements or other needs. The gallery will collaborate with the artist on how to best undertake a project make the stay most productive and successful.
Projects may range from open, adventurous community interventions and include public activity, such as giving a workshops, a readings or lectures. On the other hand, we also welcome more independent artists who value a concentrated stay in a quiet place for creative reflection. Artists have also made use of the residency’s facilities to prepare work for a show for nearby Montérégie or Montréal area galleries.
The THE SELF-DIRECTED RESEARCH AND PRODUCTION RESIDENCY is intended for professional artists seeking to develop a body of work free from constraints. Contrary to the funded residencies, the work produced does not need to be linked thematically or otherwise to the exhibition programming of AAA gallery.
The residency fees : 350$ CAD per week or 1200$ per month to cover rent and other costs. The artists are also responsible for their meals and transportation.
All artists are encouraged to apply. Applications are accepted all year and are reviewed every six weeks by gallery staff. The number of artists selected per year will vary according to resources and availability.
